Matric

This is my final art project from my Matric year of high school, with the theme ‘nostalgia’. The project involved developing concepts through sketchbook research, before creating a final piece. My final outcome was a diptych oil painting on canvas.

This project taught me the use of lighting and colours to convey emotion and mood. Setting also played a part, as the colour palette and background composition affected the overall tone of the piece.

I took a special interest in the idea of portraying a memory through the use of a hazier and dreamlike visual style. This interest has continued into filmmaking, especially in how one can use different lenses and tricks to make the shot feel dreamier and more surreal, making it clear that it’s a memory without having to use dialogue to explain.
